Holiday Gift-Giving Idea That Saves Money (and Still Feels Extra Special!)

Holiday Gift-Giving Idea That Saves Money (and Still Feels Extra Special!)

The holidays are magical… but let’s be honest, they can also be expensive. Between parties, travel, and gifting, it all adds up really fast. This year, I wanted to simplify things — and still give something thoughtful, personal, and homemade.

So, What's one of my favorite go-to gifts?

Cookie mix in a jar. 🍪 (See the Video Below)

It’s festive, easy to make in batches, and looks adorable layered in a glass jar with ribbon and a handwritten tag. Plus, who doesn’t love a ready-to-bake cookie mix during the holiday season?

Here’s the base recipe I used, with my own little twist to make it more festive (and colorful!)

Chocolate Cookie Mix in a Jar

What you’ll need:

  • 1¾ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • ¾ cup dark brown sugar

  • ½ cup white sugar

  • 1 cup cocoa

  • ½ cup chopped pecans

  • 1 cup chocolate chips (I did 1/3 cup of chocolate chips, mini chocolate chips, and Christmas M&M minis — so cute!)

How to make the mix:

  1. Layer the ingredients in a clean glass jar, starting with flour and ending with the M&Ms on top.

  2. Seal tightly and decorate the jar with ribbon or twine.

  3. Attach a tag with these baking directions:

To bake the cookies:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Empty jar mix into a large bowl and blend with your hands.

  3. Mix in ¾ cup softened butter, 1 beaten egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla.

  4. Shape into small balls and place 2 inches apart on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  5. Bake for 11–13 minutes (depending on cookie size).

  6. Cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

These jars make perfect hostess gifts, teacher gifts, or cozy stocking stuffers. You can even double the recipe and make a baking day out of it with friends or family.

💡 Pro Tip: Add a little wooden spoon or holiday cookie cutter tied to the jar for that extra festive touch! So fun and so thoughtful.

Homemade gifts like these are more than just budget-friendly — they’re personal, mindful, and filled with heart. And honestly, that’s what the holiday season is really about.

❤️ Enjoy and Be Blessed this Holiday Season
